Some people come to me already knowing what they want - they've read about magnetic copper, they've tried other versions, and they want one made by someone who knows what they're doing. I made this piece for those people.

The band is pure copper, slim and hammered by hand until the surface has the warmth and texture it needs - then set with six magnets, three on each end, sitting flush so you forget they're there after the first day.

The ones who come back for this piece never quite explain themselves - they just say it works and they need another. This is one of the last I'll make before I close my workshop. I hope it finds the wrist that's been waiting for it.

Pure copper is not magnetic. Most copper jewellery sold online is either copper-plated (a thin layer of copper over a cheaper metal like steel or brass) or mixed with iron or nickel, which makes it magnetic – that's the quickest way to expose a fake.

The test is simple:

  • Grab an ordinary fridge magnet
  • Hold it against your bracelet, ring or necklace
  • If the magnet sticks – even a little – it isn't pure copper
  • If it doesn't stick, you have the genuine article

About me

Every single piece of jewellery I make begins with the same intention: to be worn by someone who truly takes joy in it.

Copper has been worn directly against the skin for thousands of years — by Egyptian queens, Roman soldiers and generations of women before us. Quietly, every single day, close to the skin. I've been making this jewellery by hand for 33 years, and I've seen customers come back year after year.

What began as a craft became something I can only describe as a calling. But now my grandchildren are growing up without me always being there — and for the first time in 33 years there's something that matters more than the work.

Every piece in this collection is made with my own hands, one at a time. I can only create a limited number — and once they're gone, I won't make any more.

My mother lived to 96. She wore copper every single day.

She never took it off. Not in the shower. Not when she slept. Not even on her wedding day.

We called it superstition. She called it tradition.
